Who We Are

At TAMIDA, we are dedicated to transforming the landscape of adolescent health in Tanzania, particularly in rural areas where access to comprehensive healthcare and education remains limited. As a youth-led organization, we recognize the urgency of addressing critical issues surrounding Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Mental Health and Nutrition among adolescents in our communities.

Through targeted educational programs, community engagement initiatives, and strategic partnerships, we strive to create a supportive environment where adolescents can thrive and lead healthier lives.

Our Story

Since our establishment in 2011, TAMIDA has been at the forefront of SRHR and Mental health advocacy in Tanzania. We empower medical students and youth with skills in public health, research, and project management, enabling them to drive positive change in their communities.

SRHR Awareness

We believe that comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) education is fundamental to empowering adolescents and reducing health disparities. Our educational programs in rural secondary schools focus on topics such as puberty, menstrual health, family planning, safe sexual practices, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections. Through interactive workshops, informative materials, and open discussions, we aim to equip adolescents with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed choices about their reproductive health.

Mental Health Advocacy

Mental health is an integral component of overall well-being, yet it is often overlooked in discussions surrounding adolescent health. TAMIDA recognizes the importance of addressing mental health issues among adolescents and provides support through empowerment programs, counseling services, and awareness campaigns. By promoting positive mental health practices and reducing stigma, we aim to improve the psychological well-being of adolescents and help them navigate the challenges they face.

Adolescent Nutrition promotion

Nutrition profoundly impacts adolescent reproductive health by influencing hormonal balance, menstrual health, fertility, sexual development, pregnancy outcomes, and the risk of reproductive disorders. Adequate intake of essential nutrients supports normal hormonal function, menstrual cycles, and sexual development during adolescence, laying the foundation for optimal reproductive health in adulthood. Nutritional deficiencies or imbalances can disrupt hormone levels, impair fertility, and increase the risk of menstrual disorders, pregnancy complications, and reproductive disorders later in life. Therefore, promoting healthy eating habits and ensuring access to nutritious foods are crucial strategies for supporting adolescent reproductive health and well-being.

Youth empowerment

At TAMIDA, we believe in the power of youth leadership to drive positive change in our communities. We work with young people, particularly medical students and graduates, to empower them with skills in project management, public and global health, and research competency, enabling them to take on leadership roles and contribute to our initiatives. Through mentorship programs and capacity-building workshops, we nurture the next generation of leaders in adolescent and community health and advocacy.
